David joined MUFG in 2019 as Head of Corporate Sales with a mandate to expand the rates and currencies business with the Bank’s corporate clients. In his new role, David is charged with leading a team of sales professionals while partnering with the Global Corporate Investment Bank, Regional Bank and Capital Markets businesses to help deliver tailored risk management advisory services. He joins MUFG after 7 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he was Head of Corporate Foreign Exchange Sales. David has held previous sales roles at Deutsche Bank and FleetBoston Financial over his 20 year career.

Derek Halpenny
Derek Halpenny
Managing Director, Head of Research, Global Markets EMEA and International Securities
Derek Halpenny joined Global Currency Research at the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ in May 1998 as a currency economist. In May 2019, Derek was promoted to Head of Research, Global Markets for EMEA and International Securities. Based in London, Derek is responsible for developing the global markets research platform in support of MUFG’s Global Markets sales and trading activities world-wide. He contributes to all of MUFG’s global markets research publications produced in London: Foreign Exchange Outlook, produced monthly; FX Daily Snapshot and FX Weekly; and FX Focus, produced on an ad hoc basis. Derek travels extensively throughout the world meeting clients of MUFG.

For the calendar year 2017, GMR London ranked 1st in the Reuters StarMine Awards for
1-month USD forecasts versus the Majors covering key G10 currencies. It was the third time GMR London was ranked by Reuters after coming 1st in the same category in 2012 and 3rd in 2016. In the Bloomberg Accuracy Ranking Poll results for the four quarters of 2014, BTMU Global Markets Research London ranked 3rd in the poll covering the G10 region. All of these polls incorporate forecasts from around 60 banks.

Derek is often quoted in the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal and in other newspapers and appears regularly on CNBC and Bloomberg TV and radio. Derek also regularly contributes to the MUFG Global Markets Weekly Podcast launched by MUFG in 2019. Derek is a regular contributor of articles to the Nikkei Veritas magazine in Japan. Prior to joining Global Markets Research, Derek served as a proprietary futures and options trader in London. He obtained a Master of Arts degree in Economics at University College Dublin in 1992. Derek is a native of Dublin, Ireland.
Tom Joyce

Managing Director, Capital Markets Strategist
Tom Joyce is a Managing Director and Capital Markets Strategist within MUFG’s global capital markets and investment banking business. Based in New York, Tom heads a team that creates customized analytical content for multi-national US corporates and Fortune 500 companies. His team provides in depth analysis on the impact of economic, political, public policy and regulatory dynamics on the US credit, foreign exchange, rates and commodities markets.

Tom has 25 years of Investment Banking experience in New York, London, Hong Kong, and San Francisco. Over the last 13 years, Tom created and built the Capital Markets Strategy role, the only position of its kind on Wall Street.

Tom’s educational background includes a year of study at Oxford University from 1991 - 1992, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Holy Cross College in 1993, and a MBA from Kellogg Business School, Northwestern University in 2000.

Tom resides in New Canaan, CT with his wife and four sons, where he serves on the Board of Trustees of the New Canaan Library, and the Board of the New Canaan Football (Soccer) Club. He also coaches youth soccer, basketball and lacrosse.

Head of Macro Trading
Mr. Nadel joined MUFG in July 2020 as a Managing Director and Head of Macro Trading in the Americas.

In this role, he is responsible for the oversight of this business, which includes Interest Rates, Repo, Securitized Products, Emerging Markets, and Foreign Exchange.

Prior to MUFG, Mr. Nadel spent nearly a decade at Morgan Stanley, where he most recently headed Americas Macro Trading. He previously spent ten years at Bank of America and held multiple leadership roles in Rates. He began his career at Bankers Trust. Mr. Nadel spent much of his career abroad and has deep international fixed income trading experience from his time in Japan.

Mr. Nadel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and International Business from Pennsylvania State University.
