
Dick Chatham

Dick Chatham is Managing Director and Group Head for Real Estate Industries.
Mr. Chatham began his career at Union Bank in 1982 in the Commercial Lending Group following the completion of the Commercial Loan Training Program. After completing a year in the C&I Division he joined the Real Estate Industries Group in 1985 and worked in the Orange County Office through 1988.
During a three-year period from1989 to 1991, Mr. Chatham worked for D.A. Management, a pension fund advisory firm specializing in real estate investments and real estate asset management. A member of the firm’s Investment Committee which approved all investment activity, Mr. Chatham’s primary responsibility was to initiate participating mortgage investments in higher yielding “for sale” projects for the benefit of a major public pension fund.
Mr. Chatham rejoined Union Bank in early 1992 to focus on problem real estate resolutions. During this period, Mr. Chatham moved to San Diego to concentrate on the largest portfolio of problem loans in the Real Estate Group.
At the beginning of 1995, Mr. Chatham transitioned to loan originations where he was responsible for initiating new real estate lending relationships with Southern California based developers. Responsibilities included management of three offices located in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. In addition, between 1998 and 2004 Mr. Chatham was responsible for managing the Bank’s low-income housing portfolio. Asset and Profit growth during the twelve years ending in 2007 averaged in excess of 20% per year in a portfolio of construction, bridge and term financing. During this period the group focused intently on growth from the target market of “up tier” clients in the Southern California development community. At yearend 2007, Mr. Chatham managed a group that consisted of three offices and 21 individuals with a combined portfolio of approximately 3.1Billion.
In 2008, Mr. Chatham initiated a “line managed” workout team to negotiate restructures on the growing portfolio of substandard loans in the Real Estate Industries Group.
In 2009, Mr. Chatham was asked to run the RESAD Division for UB and in January of 2010 Mr. Chatham was named Division Manager of the Special Assets Division including workout and restructurings for all C&I and CRE loans in the Bank. During 2010, the Team including over 85 individuals throughout California, reduced the stressed debt portfolio from a high of $3.7BB to approximately $1.7BB by year end.
In July of 2013, Mr. Chatham oversaw the acquisition of a $3.5BB term loan portfolio and 25 FTE in New York. Following the closing of that purchase he rejoined the REI as Group Head.
In 2014 Mr. Chatham participated in the Global Leaders Forum of the Bank, one of sixteen individuals worldwide who participated in the GLF leadership program.
Currently, UB REI serves customers in Institutional Markets, Regional Markets, Community Finance and the Commercial Mortgage Division. REI has approximately 200 employees and offices in several California markets, Seattle, Chicago and New York. Currently the portfolio in REI totals approximately $15BB in real estate loans.
Mr. Chatham graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in business and finance from Arizona State University. He and his family reside in Newport Beach. He is affiliated with various industry organizations and Mr. Chatham currently sits on the UCI Diabetic Center Board.

Executive Vice President & Division Head of U.S. Bank’s Commercial Real Estate Group
Rex Rudy is an Executive Vice President and the Division Head of U.S. Bank’s Commercial Real Estate Group that operates nationally via 31 offices. Prior to U.S. Bank, Rex spent 17 years with Wells Fargo, Wachovia and First Union in their REIT Banking Group and Loan Syndications teams.
Rex is a member of ICSC, Urban Land Institute, NAREIT, Risk Management Association, United Way Regional Campaign Cabinet and the Real Estate Roundtable (President’s Council).
Rex received both his B.S.B.A and his M.B.A from the Ohio State University.
