Russ provides strategic counsel, offering comprehensive solutions from an administrative, regulatory and legislative perspective on client’s most complex matters. His expertise covers a wide variety of issues for a broad range of industries, including domestic and international tax, health care, energy, pensions, transportation, education, trade and economic development, as well as matters involving the nonprofit and for-benefit enterprise sectors. In addition to providing strategic legal counsel, Russ advises clients on business planning and public affairs. Russ joined the Senate Finance Committee staff in 1999 before rising to staff director in 2004, a role in which he served until he retired in 2013. In that position, he saw some of the most important and complex issues within the business community come before the committee. Along with advising former committee chair Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT), Russ also helped devise and implement strategies on the 2001 tax cuts, the JOBS Act of 2004, the Medicare Modernization Act of 2004, the Pension Protection Act of 2006 and the Affordable Care Act of 2009.
Jon Traub joined the Washington National Tax practice of Deloitte Tax LLP in June 2012 as managing principal of its Tax Policy Group. With extensive experience in the legislative arena, especially in tax policy, Jon is able to provide clients with critical insights on developments in tax policy and politics, helping them anticipate legislation and the potential impacts on their businesses.
Jon leads a team that identifies, evaluates and monitors legislative proposals, and interprets the practical issues surrounding the application of tax proposals on behalf of Deloitte’s clients and that relays those insights through multiple channels, including weekly newsletters and deeper dive pieces on key developments.
Jon was previously the staff director for the Committee on Ways and Means of the U.S. House of Representatives, his most recent senior staff position in the U.S. House of Representatives. During his tenure as Staff Director for the Committee on Ways and Means, Jon was responsible for developing legislative policies and strategy on issues in the Committee’s jurisdiction, including taxes, healthcare and trade.
Jon received his bachelor’s degree from Haverford College and juris doctor from the University of Virginia.
Roger Hollingsworth joined MUFG Americas in September 2020, and serves as Managing Director, U.S. Government Affairs and Chief Representative of MUFG’s Washington, D.C. Representative office. He is responsible for coordinating MUFG’s day-to-day advocacy and engagement before U.S. policymakers and staff, including the Executive Branch, Congress, and federal financial regulators. Working in collaboration with the global and regional heads of GRAO and the Chief of Staff/AHD, Roger is responsible for providing MUFG executive leaders in Tokyo and the U.S. region with insights and analysis regarding relevant legislative and regulatory policy developments and pronouncements. He is also responsible for coordinating MUFG’s engagement with D.C.-based enterprise partners, including think tanks, trade groups, the DC offices of MUFG’s Japanese and U.S. corporate partners, and other key external stakeholders.
Tom Joyce is a Managing Director and Capital Markets Strategist within MUFG’s global capital markets and investment banking business. Based in New York, Tom heads a team that creates customized analytical content for multi-national US corporates and Fortune 500 companies. His team provides in depth analysis on the impact of economic, political, public policy and regulatory dynamics on the US credit, foreign exchange, rates and commodities markets.
Tom has over 25 years of Investment Banking experience in New York, London, Hong Kong, and San Francisco. Over the last 15 years, Tom created and built the Capital Markets Strategy role, advising corporate C-Suite executives (Boards, CEOs, CFOs, and Treasurers) on the pervasive macro forces driving markets. Tom also presents at dozens of corporate events each year including Board meetings, CEO ExCo sessions, CFO and Treasury off-sites, corporate leadership events and conferences.
Tom’s educational background includes a year of study at Oxford University from 1991 - 1992, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Holy Cross College in 1993, and a MBA from Kellogg Business School, Northwestern University in 2000.
Tom resides in New Canaan, CT with his wife and four sons, where he coaches youth basketball and serves on the Board of Trustees of the New Canaan Library, as well as the Board of the New Canaan Football (Soccer) Club.
